PORT MAINTENANCE AND EXPANSION
The four Governors' South Atlantic Alliance states each have busy ports that help feed the coastal economy. These ports require regular dredging to maintain their shipping lanes. A variety of information goes into maintenance and deepening decisions.
HOW THE PORTAL CAN BE USED:
Like several southeast ports, Jacksonville Port Authority is currently working with the US Army Corps of Engineers to complete an economic, engineering and environmental study to determine the optimal depth of the federal channel.
This map illustrates some of the data layers available on the Portal taken associated with planning for port expansion – bottom type, threatened and endangered species locations, potential disposal areas, and shipping traffic.
